Gann identified the fragments as parts of a stele, which he called Stele O (Gann 1928a: 145). According to Thompson, the two fragments were several metres apart and were found with their inscribed side down (Thompson 1928b:96; Morley 1937-1938, IV: 19). The exact original site cannot be reconstructed from the reports. The original site is also unknown. Gann, however, suggests that the monument originally stood on Structure 1 (Gann 1928a:145). Morley's reconstruction attempt of the original stelae arrangement on the main plaza shows the monument northwest in front of the central platform of Building 1 (Morley 1937-1938. V: PI. 199a). (Prager 2002:II:64) During the survey of the stelae plaza carried out in the spring of 2001, a fragment was discovered in situ about 2 metres to the north in front of the north-west corner of the central platform, which may represent a piece of the base of Stela O. The fragment is stuck 35 cm into the ground. It is stuck 35 cm into the ground and, with a thickness of 10-12 cm, has the same dimensions as Stele O. In addition to this metric evidence, rock morphological characteristics can also be used for comparison. The texture of the limestone of both monuments is identical and they have the same dark colour shading.
